speech in english

Good morning ladies and gentlemen…

Before I deliver my speech, I would like to show you some of pictures and I’m sure you all ever saw these portraits in your environment.

Ladies and gentlemen…

As we know, rubbish, especially for kind of rubbish like plastic is still being the big problem, not only for our country but also for every country in this world.

It is predicted, 500 million plastics are used in the world every year. If this plastic is spread, it can wrap the earth's surface by at least 10 times! Try to imagine..!! It is so fantastic. And do you know? Every year, about 500 billion – 1 quintillion plastic bags are used in every country. It is predicted every people uses 170 plastic bags in a year. More than 17 billion plastics are shared freely by supermarkets in every world every year.

It took 1000 years for plastics to break down the soil decomposed or broken down completely. This is a very long time. When broken down, the plastic particles will contaminate soil and groundwater.

When burned, plastics garbage will produce toxic fumes which are hazardous to health if not perfect combustion process; the plastic will break down in the air as dioxins. This compound is very dangerous when inhaled human. The impact of other triggers for cancer, hepatitis, inflammation of the liver, nervous system disorders and triggers depression. Plastic bags also cause flooding, because clogged drains.

So, how to solve this problem?

BYOB = bring your own bag

That was one slogan of the existing trend in the world. We can begin to reduce our plastics rubbish by replacing it.

  1. Do not use plastic bags for shopping. Bring your own shopping bags that can always be used again.
  2. Do not immediately discard plastic bottles after drinking. Fill the water again and put back, although not too many refills. Approximately 5 times disposable still okay.
  3. It is better for us to buy a bottle to drink so you can always be refilled and not have to buy another bottle of mineral water.
  4. If you intend to buy food at the restaurant or cafe, you'd better bring your own lunch box, so you do not need wrapped it in plastic.

Most of countries in this world ware doing this program. How with us in Indonesia? Do we have to feel ashamed for carrying our own shopping bags? Do we afraid of being seen and laughed at? Instead we must laugh at those who do not understand the importance of environment and lack of awareness to reduce rubbish.

Lets together we reduce our plastic rubbish.

Think smartly, life healthy…!!!
